Cape Peninsula Tour for Photographers

Highlights: You will be collected well before sunrise, in order to get to St. James’s beach; to photograph as the first golden rays illuminates the colourful beach huts. This also offers your personal photocoach to teach you how to photograph and improve your seascape photographs using slow shutter speeds to create motion blur in the waves and add impact to your photographs. We then make our way to Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town, to photograph the African Penguins before the masses and tour busses arrives, and take you to our secret photo spots to get really great photographs of African Penguins. On our Full Day Photo Tour we also visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. This offers us the opportunity to photograph Chacma Baboons, Cape Mountain Zebra, Bontebok and Eland, and several bird species including Ostrich and Black Oystercatchers, as well as beautiful landscapes with rich and diverse fynbos vegetation. We also visit the historical lighthouse with its spectacular views and take a “Kodak Moment” at the sign at Cape of Good Hope. We return to Cape Town in the late afternoon via Chapman’s Peak drive, the most scenic drive in Cape Town. For those new to photography and still learning, this is the perfect tour for you as it offers a wide variety of opportunities to learn and sharpen your skills as a photographer.

The first stop is at Boulders penguin sanctuary to view the African penguins from the seaward side. Next we visit a small Cape Fur seal colony at Partridge Point and onto exploring the cliffs & caves leading up to Cape Point. On fine weather days, there's even a sea cave that we can enter with the boat. We then "round" Cape Point to enjoy the spectacular views, take photos & share an informative commentary. We head back to Simon's Town on an offshore route with the hope of encountering dolphins or whales along the way. The sea-bird life is also quite outstanding!

Apart from offering visitors an exciting and novel method of travel, taking the Flying Dutchman funicular saves visitors an uphill walk from the car park to see the old lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic views. The Flying Dutchman Funicular, also known as the Cape Point Funicular, is a funicular railway located at Cape Point. It is believed to be the only commercial funicular of its type in Africa, and takes its name from the local legend of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship. The line runs from a lower station at the Cape Point car park, up an incline through dense fynbos to the upper lighthouse. The funicular leaves from the lower station every three minutes, comfortably accommodates 40 passengers per car, and can transport 450 persons to the upper lighthouse per hour, making it the ideal way to whisk closer to the lighthouse even during peak times.

Cape Point Tour See Cape Point from a different angle. Get that photo you always see in the National Geographic magazine. Make a pass through Smitswinkel bay and Buffels bay past the Dias crosses and close to the cliffs below the historic lighthouse that leads up to the point. Visit the Roman Rock Lighthouse – the only lighthouse on our coast to have been erected on a single rock. We often see penguins, whales and a whole range of seabirds on trips down to the tip of the peninsula. Seal Snorkeling Jump into the water with the Cape fur Seals and have a blast with the clowns of the sea. On our way back from Cape Point we stop at Partridge Point that is home to a few hundred seals. They are extremely curious and playful and will entertain divers and snorkelers alike. They mostly hang around the surface when they are in the water but will dive down to 25 metres to Scuba divers. The Cape fur Seal activity is available all year and anybody is welcome to join in on this activity.

A UNESCO world heritage site, this reserve boasts a variety of fauna and flora which you are likely to encounter during your experience. Choose your preferred distance, either 6, 10 or 12km and we will tailor the tour to your needs. This tour excludes entrance fees which are payable at the gate. FULL DAY ADVENTURE Experience a full day of adventure with a 65 meter waterfall abseil, canyoning (also known as kloofing) with jumps from 3 to 22 meters high and a beautiful hike. The day is spent in the Kogelberg biosphere reserve which is characterised by exciting adventures, beautiful scenery, towering cliffs and rock pools. Your all day Adventure starts at 8am at the Pitstop Lodge with a hearty breakfast on arrival. After a safety briefing you enter into the Steenbras River Gorge and start the 45 minute hike through beautiful fynbos to the first cliff jumping pools. Guests spend an hour doing the various jumps, then head off on the second hike taking you to the top of the gorge to conquer the 65 meter waterfall abseil. The hike back to the pools take about 30 minutes. Guests are then able to take on the exhilarating jumps once more before making their way back to Pitstop Lodge for a Light Dinner and a cold beer. This Canyoning trip is ideal for novice to seasoned adrenaline junkies and offers striking views.
