Tubing (‘Geko’) trip

Gravity Adventures
Activity Type: Marine & Water Tours Location: Kleinmond, Hermanus, Western Cape

Gravity Adventure pioneered the Palmiet River and have been running it for over 15 years now. We can truly say that we are ‘the original and the best’ and that newer operators on the river don’t even come close. We are privileged to be a licensed operator on this awesome river. At medium and high water levels we offer thrilling white water rafting in two-person inflatable ‘crocodiles’ or four person rafts and at low levels we offer trips on inflatable ‘gekos’. This innovative inflatable craft was been specially developed for the Palmiet and is now used countrywide. If used in a reclining position, it provides a comfortable way to drift lazily along the pools and channels of the river and if used facing forward, an exciting way of tackling the small rapids. The Palmiet River Experience is suitable for all ages and skill levels – we provide qualified and registered guides with an intimate knowledge of the river and its environment and instruction on how to steer your craft. And since all of the rapids are optional, the trip is even suitable for those who prefer a more relaxed excursion. In the high water months (winter and spring), when we are rafting, we run the longer section, starting in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. At lower water tubing levels, we complete a shorter section of the river. All boating and safety equipment is provided including PFDs (‘lifejackets’), gloves, paddle jackets and helmets. Wetsuits are also provided. Since this excursion takes place in a sensitive natural environment, group size is limited to 24 people per group day. We can run two rafting groups simultaneously. The trip price includes permits, all equipment, snacks, transport and APA qualified guides. It doesn’t include the CapeNature Conservation fee (currently R40.00 per adult and payable on entry) – if you have a WildCard or are staying in the reserve, you don’t pay this. CapeNature have recently redeveloped their accommodation and of offer state of the art ‘Eco accommodation” in the heart of the Kogelberg. This is an ideal base for a weekend away or a corporate breakaway and we can arrange all catering as well as additional activities such as hiking, abseiling and Mountain biking. We can also arrange all other accommodation required (from camping to guesthouses to luxury hotels). Luxury conference facilities can also be arranged.

Whale Watching Encounter

(1 Reviews)
Ocean Blue Adventures
Activity Type: Marine & Water Tours Location: Central Beach, Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape

Only available during whale watching seaon. If not available, please choose our Bay Cruise Passengers are asked to check in at the Ocean Blue Adventures Shop, which is located in the Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Plettenberg Bay, approximately 30 minutes before the planned departure time. Prior to departure, clients will be equipped with life-jackets (and ponchos, if necessary). Once this is done, all passengers will have a Pre-Trip Briefing, where your guide will explain the trips and safety aspects. Once passengers have boarded their boat, the trip commences with an exciting beach launch through the surf. While the routes may vary, depending on weather, animal distribution and sea conditions, a typical trip runs as follows:- Prior to launching, your skipper will have determined the route with the highest likelihood of spotting whales. Most recently, our highest success rate is to head offshore to what we refer to as the Humpback Highway. This is a passage of water from the Robberg Point across to Natures Valley and the Tsitsikamma Marine Reserve, where migrating humpback whales are often encountered en route to their breeding or feeding grounds. Occasionally we also head along the Keurbooms Beach in search of breeding groups of Southern Right Whales. This area is also a popular hang-out for Bottlenose and Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins. Depending on time constraints and location of whales, we also try to visit the Cape Fur Seal colony at Robberg Peninsula, with a chance of spotting endangered Great White Sharks. Finally we head back along the Robberg beach, while a brief run-down on the history of the area is given. After passing the Beacon Island Hotel, built on the site of an original Whaling Station, we end the experience with an exhilarating “James Bond” style landing on Central Beach.

White Shark Parasailing

Mossel Bay Boat Adventures
Activity Type: Marine & Water Tours Location: Mossel Bay, Western Cape

December only If you are looking to scale the heights of adventure, look no further than White Shark Parasailing - one of Mossel Bay Boat Adventures’ most popular activities. Experience the exhilaration of breathtaking views from this high vantage point! Look down over the Garden Route’s iconic coastline from Mossel Bay Harbor to Hartenbos, with the famed Outeniqua Mountain Range as a backdrop, from a privileged view above the Indian Ocean during this parasailing adventure. Our Tour starts at our Booking office, on Quay 4, at the Mossel Bay Harbor Waterfront. Upon arrival, we’ll quickly process you and escort you to the pier. Once you have boarded Senorita, you will be issued with a life jacket and fitted with a harness. You will then be given a full safety briefing by one of our professional skippers. Senorita is specifically designed for the job, meaning safe and dry take-off from and landing back on the boat rather than the water or beach. After the boat reaches the fly zone, it will be time to make your way to the platform at the rear to get ready for your flight. One of our experienced deckhands will clip you into the parasail. As soon as everything’s in place you will slowly be released, and before you know it you’ll be soaring up to 300 meter high above the ocean, safely under your canopy. It’s quite a paradox! Exhilarating yet tranquil! An adrenaline rush yet peaceful! With a 360 degree Birdseye view of the world below you and the occasional soft rustle of the wind whooshing over the chute….You experience a new sense of freedom, of practically floating on air! Plenty to see in the water as well and a very good chance of spotting the infamous Great White Shark for which the bay is famous.
