We will take you into the channel of water between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock known as the world famous ‘Shark Alley’. We will then take you to the whale hot-spots in the bay. With over a decade of experience, not only do we know where to expect the best whale viewings, but the whales have also learned where to expect us! Ocean Wonder is an owner run service that offers boat based Ocean Wildlife Encounters. These intimate trips don't follow any set route. Instead, I'm guided by my understanding and ongoing observation of this environment, the creatures in it, and the ever changing water and weather conditions. These trips are all about finding and, where possible, interacting with some of the amazing creatures that frequent the rich waters around Cape Town.

The 2 hour boat adventure starts and ends with an adrenaline beach launch into the sea, with 400 hp motors, we will take you to some of the best spots along the coastline. Our purpose built cat style boat has been designed to conquer the ocean without compromising on safety or comfort. Our official permit allows us to take you as close as 50m from a whale when sighted. Other sightings include seals, pelagic birds as well as sharks, big fish, penguins and octopus in their natural habitat.

Enjoy a scenic drive and experience the majestic beauty of the southern right whales basking in the warm waters of Hermanus coastline during July and November. There’s also the option to view the whales up close from the boat. Visit the penguins at Stony Point nature reserve and a wine tasting and lunch in the Hemel and Aarde wine valley. If not available, please choose our Bay Cruise Passengers are asked to check in at the Ocean Blue Adventures Shop, which is located in the Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Plettenberg Bay, approximately 30 minutes before the planned departure time. Prior to departure, clients will be equipped with life-jackets (and ponchos, if necessary). Once this is done, all passengers will have a Pre-Trip Briefing, where your guide will explain the trips and safety aspects. Once passengers have boarded their boat, the trip commences with an exciting beach launch through the surf. While the routes may vary, depending on weather, animal distribution and sea conditions, a typical trip runs as follows:- Prior to launching, your skipper will have determined the route with the highest likelihood of spotting whales. Most recently, our highest success rate is to head offshore to what we refer to as the Humpback Highway. This is a passage of water from the Robberg Point across to Natures Valley and the Tsitsikamma Marine Reserve, where migrating humpback whales are often encountered en route to their breeding or feeding grounds. Occasionally we also head along the Keurbooms Beach in search of breeding groups of Southern Right Whales. This area is also a popular hang-out for Bottlenose and Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins. Depending on time constraints and location of whales, we also try to visit the Cape Fur Seal colony at Robberg Peninsula, with a chance of spotting endangered Great White Sharks. Finally we head back along the Robberg beach, while a brief run-down on the history of the area is given. After passing the Beacon Island Hotel, built on the site of an original Whaling Station, we end the experience with an exhilarating “James Bond” style landing on Central Beach.
