About Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach, often referred to as just boulders, is situated in the picturesque town of Simon’s Town. Boulders Beach which is made up of both Boulders and Foxy beach, is one of the best-known attractions in Cape Town and is most famous for its granite boulders, penguin colony and swimming area. The granite boulders, estimated to be about 450 million years old, protects the beach from severe weather and therefore provides a safe haven for the penguin colony and makes for a fantastic day on the beach.

Visitors can EXPERIENCE the endangered African penguin in its natural habitat whilst EXPLORING the amazing beaches and ancient boulders. Boulders Beach and the African Penguins can be visited all year round. There are two entrances, one at Foxy Beach and one at Boulders Beach. Visitors only need to pay once to enter either of these areas. Foxy beach provides the best viewing spots and offers wheelchair friendly boardwalks between viewing points. Foxy beach is home to approximately 2100 endangered African Penguins and is one of only breeding Colonies in South Africa. The African penguin is also known as the Jack ass penguin as the sound it makes mimics that of a donkey.
